Anti-Scam Notice
People who have lost cryptocurrency are deliberately targeted a second time by fraudsters posing as recovery agents, regulators, and law firms. This notice tells you exactly what the genuine practice will and will never do.
1. What this practice will never do
Kevin Smith Legal will never, under any circumstances:
- Ask for your seed phrase, recovery phrase, or private keys, in full or in part
- Ask for your wallet or exchange passwords, or two-factor authentication codes
- Ask you to install or grant remote access through AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or any similar software
- Ask for money upfront, for any reason, in any currency
- Ask for payment in cryptocurrency, gift cards, or vouchers
- Claim that a fee is required to unlock, release, insure, tax, or verify assets
- Contact you first through Telegram, WhatsApp, social media, or unsolicited telephone calls
- Guarantee the recovery of any asset
Anyone who does any of these things while claiming to be this practice, Kevin Smith, or any associate of the practice is a fraudster. Hang up, keep the evidence, and report it.
2. How to verify you are dealing with the genuine practice
- Official correspondence comes only from info@kevinsmithlegal.com. No other address, domain, or messaging account is used.
- The practice operates in writing first. There is no public telephone line and no cold calling, by design.
- Verify the solicitor independently on the Solicitors Regulation Authority register: Kevin Smith, SRA No. 319685; practice SRA No. 8011060.
- If you are unsure whether a message is genuine, forward it to info@kevinsmithlegal.com and ask. Verification costs you nothing.
3. The anatomy of a recovery scam
Lists of fraud victims are traded between criminal networks. A typical second-strike approach follows a recognisable script:
- The caller already knows what you lost, which makes them sound credible.
- They claim funds have been located and are being held for you by a court, a regulator, or a recovery firm.
- Release requires a payment: a tax, an unlock fee, an insurance deposit, or legal costs, usually in crypto or gift cards.
- Some ask for remote access to your device to install a wallet or verify your identity. That is how the remaining funds are taken.
No genuine court, regulator, or solicitor holds your crypto hostage pending a payment. That premise is always false.
4. If you have already paid a recovery agent
Stop all further payments immediately. Preserve every message, receipt, and transaction hash from both the original fraud and the recovery approach. Report both to Action Fraud and inform your bank. You may then request a written case evaluation from this practice if you wish to understand whether any legitimate civil route remains.
5. Reporting impersonation of this practice
If someone contacts you claiming to be Kevin Smith Legal and requests any of the prohibited items listed above, please forward the evidence to info@kevinsmithlegal.com. Impersonation of a solicitor is a serious matter and will be reported to the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the police.
